Project Description

Your are here: Home / Madikwe Safaris / Madikwe 3-Day Safari

Madikwe Game Reserve is one of the most special and intimate reserves in South Africa. Be sure to choose Biggestleaf Transfers when considering passage to this protected national treasure. Our transfers are offered as part of the Madikwe 2 night, 3-day safari experience and guests can take comfort in the fact that they are choosing a safe and reliable transport service, conducted by knowledgeable, friendly and licensed drivers. The trip from Johannesburg usually lasts 4-5 hours to Madikwe, passing through the northern part of the country near to the Botswana border.

Our destination is famously known as being the most intimate park in South Africa as only pre-authorized guests are allowed in. Here the public are not allowed to embark on self-drives, so only booked guests may enjoy the abundance of scenery and wildlife for their own leisure. Spending 2 nights and 3 days here will surely return a multitude of memories and sense of awe – this wilderness is a modern South African success story that brings conservation to the fore.

Day 1: Gauteng – Madikwe
Leaving the metropolis of Johannesburg, our journey to Madikwe Game Reserve takes around 4-5 hours. We will arrive in the afternoon and briefly get to settle in at the lodge before we depart on our first real Madikwe encounter – a game drive with a qualified ranger. This Big 5 reserve offers many surprises with its exciting wildlife count so we will spend a few hours enjoying the surroundings before returning to the lodge after dark where a sumptuous dinner awaits us.

Day 2: Full day in the reserve
Today we’re up early, before dawn, where we will enjoy a quick tea or coffee before heading out on our second game drive. This is an ideal time in which to observe animals as they are most active during this period, getting in some good viewing before the midday heat sets in.
Breakfast awaits us upon our arrival back at the lodge. The following several hours will be spent at your own leisure – relaxing by the pool, immersing yourself in a good book or just enjoying the rest of the lodge’s facilities. After a hearty lunch and a bit more relaxation, we embark on our late-afternoon game drive which may continue beyond dusk, with the day invariably ending over a good dinner and reminiscing about the day’s sightings.

Day 3: Madikwe – Gauteng
Another early start sees us embarking on our final game drive through the reserve, hopefully with some memorable sightings to round off our stay. Upon returning to the lodge we will enjoy breakfast before departing the lodge and Madikwe.

Fully-serviced, luxury en-suite rooms add a touch of class to your experience.

We hand-pick the best lodges with the best reputation for our guests.

October – April (Rainy Season) – Daytime temperatures average around 30°C. The highest rainfall months are between November and February, though rainfall tends to come in short, sharp bursts and then the skies clear. The days can be hot and humid but the nights are beautifully balmy. During the rainy season the park’s vegetation is particularly lush, green and pretty; the soil is a distinctive deep red. This is the best time for birders, and for rich photographic contrasts.

May to September (Dry Season) – The winter months in Madikwe are dry and cool, with crisp clear blue skies. Night temperatures can sometimes drop to 2°C so be sure to bring warm clothes. Day temperatures average a comfortable 23°C. This is the best time for big game viewing, with animals being forced to move around in search of the scarce water supplies.Winter- This is known to be the best time to visit the park. During the period around July to October, animals in the park are easier to spot and spend longer feeding. It is also mating season which is definitely worth seeing. Days are generally warm and clear.
