OVERVIEW

This itinerary explores all of Zambia’s southern gems, taking 11 days to wend your way through Mosi-Oa-Tunya, Lower Zambezi and South Luangwa National Parks. Accommodation is at some of the best lodges in each area, and promises comfort and luxury without being over the top. Think elevated bush camps and modern lodges that never let you forget that you’re in the heart of Africa…

Activities on offer make the most of the land and water: game drives, of course, but also guided nature walks, seasonal catch-and-release fishing, sleep-outs, birding, kayaking, sundowners and river cruises. Best of all, the lodges chosen are suitable for honeymooners and keen amateur photographers but also children who appreciate nature and enjoy being on safari.

THIS ITINERARY WAS DESIGNED BY JOANNE

One of the few places that offers a true walking safari – between camps – rather than just a simple nature walk. I love Zambia because it is still very authentic: up on the Busanga Plains in Kafue, you’ll have a true picture of Africa at its most pristine and untouched.

DAILY ITINERARY

This exciting trip through three of south Zambia’s national parks puts you not only in prime game-watching areas but also accommodates you in some of their best lodges. After landing in Livingstone, you’re driven to Thorntree River Lodge in Mosi-Oa-Tunya, named after the traditional name for the Victoria Falls.

Activities are anything from tracking highly endangered rhino and boating on the Zambezi River to finally understanding why the world’s largest waterfall is accurately known as ‘the smoke that thunders’.

Why we love Thorntree River Lodge:

  • Children will love the Ngwana Club
  • Wellness is enhanced in the gym and spa
  • Wi-Fi connectivity in the library
  • Unforgettable river views and water activities

A modern lodge with plenty of glass, both Lolebezi’s design and position allow for magnificent views of the Zambezi River, the iconic cry of an African fish eagle the only sound to pierce the peacefulness. Despite being so sophisticated, children are welcome and a special programme is devised for them.

Your days are spent on classic dawn and dusk game drives, gentle guided nature walks, angling and relaxing cruises to explore more of the river beyond Lolebezi’s own exclusive frontage.

Why we love Lolebezi Safari Lodge:

  • Two family units for groups travelling together
  • Open-air cinema with movies under the Milky Way
  • Private plunge pools with a secluded sala
  • Yoga deck, spa and a gym for working out

Today you fly back to Mfuwe Airport for your road transfer to Chinzombo and the chance to explore a different part of South Luangwa. Whether your arrival is by boat or game-drive vehicle, you will immediately appreciate how the open-air design makes the most of the landscape. Hippo graze on the lawn by night and a dawn chorus of birdsong will greet you every morning.

Use these days to search for the species that may still be eluding you!

Why we love Chinzombo

  • Wonderful deck and fire pit overlooking the water
  • Private plunge pool and bathtub with river views
  • Very airy large tents beautifully appointed
  • Fly-camping, boating and in-room spa treatments

Depending on flight times, you may enjoy a final game drive or sleep in and take breakfast on the deck before bidding farewell to the Chinzombo staff. You’ll be driven back to Mfuwe Airport for your flight to Lusaka. If you would like to overnight in Lusaka or use it as a springboard for an East African safari, that can easily be arranged.

Zambia is known for its friendly people and wonderful wildlife as the past 10 days will have proved.
