OVERVIEW

This trip idea allows you to see much of South Africa without blowing the budget. Accommodation has been selected to be extremely comfortable while giving you access to everything that Cape Town and the private reserves surrounding the Kruger National Park have to offer. This means a fun city experience is coupled with an excellent safari offering.

The Mother City is so called because it’s the oldest in South Africa. Beyond the city limits are a plethora of foodie, outdoor and cultural excursions – all of which can be tailored to your exact interests. Then it’s off to one of the most prolific safari destinations anywhere. Private Kruger reserves can almost guarantee the Big 5… and so much more!

THIS ITINERARY WAS DESIGNED BY JOANNE

As a born-and-bred South Africa, I’ve lived in the Western Cape, Gauteng and the Free State. We have so much to offer: you can explore several different ecosystems just within our borders. It’s exciting to go from sub-tropical beaches to adventures the wild Atlantic coast – and the sensational Big 5 game viewing is definitely the cherry on the cake!

DAILY ITINERARY

Cape Town is a must-see on any traveller to Africa’s bucket list. Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront, Cape Point, Boulders Beach and the Winelands create a varied roster of things to do. Another major hotspot is the Camps Bay Strip, your home for four nights at The Marly Boutique Hotel.

This location puts you near a string of restaurants, shops, bars and clubs – as well as world-famous Camps Bay Beach, which boasts some of the city’s best sunset vistas.

Why we love The Marly Boutique Hotel and Spa

  • Right on the buzzing Camps Bay Strip
  • Mountain, sea and beach views
  • Rooftop bar and swimming pool
  • Interleading rooms for families

It’s a travel day as you swap the beach for the bush. From Cape Town you land at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, from where you catch a light aircraft to Rock Fig Airstrip. From the air, you might be lucky enough to catch your first glimpse of big game like giraffes or elephants.

Home in this wilderness paradise is the aptly named Kings Camp and each day, you head out to find the Big 5 with your guide.

Why we love Kings Camp:

  • Classic thatched safari lodge
  • Chandeliers and antiques for a bygone feel
  • Specialist yoga and art safaris
  • Spa and in-room treatments

By now your ‘eye’ will be in and you’ll be acclimatised to the smell that indicates nearby elephants or lions’ tell-tall contact calling. If you haven’t ticked off a member of the Big 5 yet or got the shot you’ve been wanting, worry not as you have three more  nights on safari.

Fly from Rock Fig to Ulusaba Airport, where your driver from Savanna Private Game Reserve in the Sabi Sand will be waiting to help you with your remaining wish list!

Why we love Savanna Lodge:

  • Floodlit waterhole for armchair game viewing
  • Fully equipped gym and outdoor boma
  • Lots of dams that attract wildlife
  • All suites have heated plunge pools

It’s almost always hard to have a final lodge breakfast and start retracing your steps home. Perhaps today will be no different but at least you’ll have wonderful experiences to reminisce over: seeing waddling African penguins, sampling South African vintages, learning a new handshake or being awed by the clarity of the night sky.

From Ulusaba Airstrip, you settle into another light aircraft for your flight back to OR Tambo, a phone full of photos and a mind full of memories.
