OVERVIEW

It’s extraordinary how much fun, excitement and inspiration you can pack into a week with careful planning. We have created this itinerary idea for those travellers who want to see the gorillas and their safari kick in two of Uganda’s most unique national parks.

Accommodation has been specially chosen because it is in Bwindi Impenetrable and Queen Elizabeth National Parks, cutting down on travelling time and giving you a 24/7 wildlife experience. Beginning and ending in Entebbe, a combination of light aircraft flights and road transfers will allow you to see Uganda from the air and ground. In addition to the gorillas, look out for the famous tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha sector that make for wonderful photos.

THIS ITINERARY WAS DESIGNED BY JOANNE

Central Africa is the new frontier in safaris with gorilla and chimpanzee trekking a must-do for everyone who loves wildlife. Uganda is a fascinating destination and, if you aren’t a little interested in birds when you arrive, you will be by the time you leave…

DAILY ITINERARY

After a long-haul flight to get to Uganda, it will be a welcome relief that a short drive conveys you to your boutique hotel for the night. Your driver will welcome you at Entebbe International Airport and take you to Hotel No 5, which is near attractions such as Lake Victoria, Africa’s biggest.

Take this evening to ensure your camera batteries are charged, your memory cards in place and you have your gear ready for the next part of your journey.

Why we love Hotel No 5:

  • Arguably Entebbe’s best hotel
  • Dedicated staff who go the extra miles
  • Pool and spa for relaxing
  • Conveniently close to the airport

From Entebbe International you take off for Kihihi Airstrip at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the epicentre of Uganda’s gorilla trekking. This is a pristine rainforest, called ‘impenetrable’ because the forest is dense for humans and sunlight.

Buhoma Lodge is home for three nights and one of the only lodges in the actual national park. Its open-air decks provide gorgeous views of Bwindi, home to not only mountain gorillas but also other primates, innumerable birds and a surprising number of mammals.

Why we love Buhoma Lodge:

  • Situated in the national park
  • Phenomenal views of the forest
  • Soothing massages in the spa
  • Special boot-cleaning service

Seeing the wondrous wildlife of Bwindi will whet your appetite for more animal encounters especially if you are a safari lover. Today you get a taste of life on the ground in Uganda as you are driven to Queen Elizabeth National Park for two nights of game watching at Ishasha Wilderness Camp.

Being in the park means you are always in the thick of the action. Look out for the Ishasha sector’s famous prides that literally hang out in trees!

Why we love Ishasha Wilderness Camp:

  • Lovely river views from camp
  • Chance to see lion, leopard and big game
  • Right in the national park
  • Unfenced for wildlife to pass through

The last day of a safari is bittersweet as you retrace your steps and recall all the great times you’ve had. From looking into the eyes of a silverback or spotting a leopard cub, you never know what you’ll experience.

Today you are driven back to Kihihi Airstrip where it all began for the hop back to Entebbe. As always, we can arrange overnight accommodation in the city or create an island or safari extension to your holiday.
