OVERVIEW

‘Bush and beach’ is a classic African holiday combination for a good reason: after the early morning, pre-dawn starts for game drives, you might need to not set the alarm clock or ask for a wake-up call for a few days. And while Cape Town does boast spectacular beaches at Camps Bay and Clifton, it also offers a plethora of other exciting options, from wine tasting and soft adventure sports, to reaching the top of Table Mountain and walking Robben Island.

This gentle itinerary idea gives you the prolific and productive bush of the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve and four nights to find all of the Big 5 before jetting you to gorgeous Cape Town for five exciting nights.

THIS ITINERARY WAS DESIGNED BY JOANNE

As a born-and-bred South Africa, I’ve lived in the Western Cape, Gauteng and the Free State. We have so much to offer: you can explore several different ecosystems just within our borders. It’s exciting to go from sub-tropical beaches to adventures the wild Atlantic coast – and the sensational Big 5 game viewing is definitely the cherry on the cake!

DAILY ITINERARY

After a long-haul flight, a modern hotel room is exactly what you need to get a good night’s sleep to shake off the jet lag. Fortunately, you can stroll straight from the arrivals lounge of OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to your room at the InterContinental hotel.

Catch up on your messages, perhaps have a massage or work out in the gym before a great dinner with South African wine in the restaurant: tomorrow your safari begins!

Why we love InterContinental Johannesburg OR Tambo:

  • Very convenient airport location
  • Soundproofed windows in suites
  • All the mod cons like Wi-Fi and AC
  • Gym, swimming pool and restaurants

Rested and refreshed, you’re all set for your light aircraft flight to Dulini Airstrip in the Sabi Sand, a private game reserve in the Greater Kruger area. This is hands down the best place to see all of the Big 5: in fact, it’s not unknown to spot them all on a single game drive.

You can relish four days of exploring Sabi Sand, having sundowners and honing your eyes and ears to the sights and sounds of the bush.

Why we love Leadwood Lodge:

  • Just four intimate suites
  • Private plunge pools for hot days
  • Outdoor showers and warming fireplaces
  • Personalised, first-name-basis hospitality

For the final segment of your holiday, you retrace your steps to touch down in Cape Town, widely regarded as the continent’s most beautiful city. You’ll be driven to Cape Grace, an elegant but friendly hotel in the V&A Waterfront within walking distance of shops, galleries, excursions and restaurants.

Five nights gives you plenty of time to explore everything from historical lighthouses at Cape Point and waddling penguins at Boulders Beach to the Winelands and the vibrant inner city.

Why we love Cape Grace:

  • Wonderful Table Mountain views
  • Fine dining and superb whisky bar
  • Haven in the V&A Waterfront
  • Serene spa, swimming pool and salon

It is extraordinary the difference just 10 days of excellent service and a seamless journey can do for body and soul. This

This trip has given you plenty of time to really get to know two of the most sought-after destinations in South Africa: the classic bush of the Greater Kruger region and the Mother City. The slower pace also means you can do as little or as much as you like, being on the go or slowing down occasionally.

Today you bid Cape Grace goodbye and retrace your steps to the airport, passing Table Mountain and the city skyline on your way home.
