OVERVIEW

A safari can be a hectic vacation with early mornings, late nights, exciting game drives and loads of new experiences coupled with catching flights every second or third day. This itinerary slows it all down and gives you four nights each in two of Botswana’s most outstanding private reserves. Not only does this allow you to genuinely unwind (and unpack your bag properly) but it affords you the opportunity to really get to know your guides and truly immerse yourself in these unspoilt wildernesses.

The Selinda and Duba Plains Reserves offer peace, tranquillity, virtually no other visitors, superb service and exceptional lodges. Game viewing is reliable in each with good, regular sightings of predators. Why wouldn’t you want to stay for longer?

THIS ITINERARY WAS DESIGNED BY JOANNE

I lived in Botswana’s safari capital – Maun – for seven years where I worked as everything from a camp manager to a travel agent. Being in the epicentre allowed me experience innumerable lodges first-hand and understand how the Okavango’s fluctuating levels affect your safari.

DAILY ITINERARY

Wing your way from Maun to the Selinda Reserve on a light aircraft. Selinda is a vast tract of private land in the north bordered by the Okavango Delta, Selinda Channel and Chobe National Park, giving it an interesting mix of habitats that support myriad different species.

Your accommodation is the beautiful Zarafa Camp, which means ‘beloved one’ – how apt for a honeymoon safari! Have four nights of pure bliss with champagne stops, game drives, boating and gentle nature walks.

Why we love Zarafa Camp:

  • Built by artisans using reclaimed wood
  • Glorious setting on the Zibadianja Lagoon
  • Antique doors from Zanzibar add atmosphere
  • Polished copper bathtubs with bush views

Another private reserve awaits you today as your fly into Duba Plains, which is in the incomparable Okavango Delta. Duba Plains Camp is another prettily designed lodge with twinkling lanterns and a passing nod to history.

Again, four nights of unadulterated game watching and exciting activities like boating, sundowners and even season catch-and-release fishing await you. A fantastic way to appreciate the Okavango’s lakes, channels and islands is from the air, so consider splashing out on a scenic helicopter flip.

Why we love Duba Plains Camp:

  • Watch game from your private plunge pool
  • Butler service to take care of your every need
  • Work out in the gym or in your room
  • Unwind with a message on your secluded deck

All good things must come to an end… Depending on the flight schedule, you may have a last morning game drive at Duba Plains or perhaps sleep a little later and enjoy a final breakfast on the deck, possibly with vervet monkeys playing in the branches above or a lone fish eagle calling from the distance.

On the way back to Maun, you may find yourself reflecting that a leisurely safari is one of the most invaluable indulgences of life itself.
